Common questions
Why does this tool send the file to a server when the others do not?
Because there is no reliable way to read Word in a browser: the format is complex, and what the libraries manage is an approximate retelling of the layout. The document is converted by LibreOffice — the same engine as in the editor itself. It runs as a separate service, the file is not stored there and is deleted right after the answer.
What happens to my document?
It is passed to the conversion service, turned into a PDF and wiped immediately along with the temporary directory. Neither the file name nor its contents are written down anywhere. Turning the PDF into images happens in your browser — that step never reaches the server.
What if the layout came out wrong?
Usually it is the fonts: a font the server does not have gets replaced by a similar one, and lines can shift. Arial, Times New Roman, Courier and ordinary Cyrillic are substituted with metrically compatible faces, so the layout holds. For a complex document it is safer to save it as PDF from Word itself and bring that to the PDF to JPG tool.
Which formats are accepted, and how large?
Word documents: .doc and .docx, up to 50 MB. A password-protected file cannot be opened — remove the protection in Word and try again.
Why is this slower than the other tools?
The document travels to the server and back, and the conversion itself takes a few seconds — more on the first request after a quiet spell, because the service has to wake up. Everything else on the site is computed right in the browser and is therefore instant.
