How do I make a QR code?

What goes in the Instagram field?
The handle and nothing else: “nikola.petrovic” or “@nikola.petrovic”, both are fine. A full link works too — we cut the handle out of it. The code opens the profile in the app if it is installed, and in a browser if it is not.
Why does the number need a country code?
Without it the number dials on the network of whoever scans the code: “060…” works inside Serbia and leads nowhere anywhere else. Write it with a plus and the country code; spaces, brackets and dashes are fine, we strip them ourselves.
When do I need a transparent background?
When the code goes on a coloured surface or a photo: a white square around it looks like a patch. The switch shows up for PNG and WebP only — JPG cannot store transparency at all, and there the background colour always wins.
Which damage tolerance should I pick?
The middle one if you are not sure. Tolerance is how much of the drawing can be ruined while the code still reads: L takes 7%, M 15%, Q 25%, H 30%. The higher it is, the denser the drawing at the same size, so the high setting is for stickers outdoors and for codes with something placed over the middle.
The code will not scan — what is wrong?
Usually one of three things. The code colour is too light: contrast beats beauty, a dark code on a light background always reads, the other way round does not. The print is too small: below two centimetres on paper a phone struggles. Or the margin is gone: the white frame around the code is part of the standard, not decoration — we leave it there, so do not crop it away.
Does the code go anywhere?
No. The drawing is put together in your browser, on your own device, and neither the address nor the phone number leaves it. You can check that yourself: open the Network tab in the developer tools and watch it stay empty while the code is made.
